Backbone
The backbone is a high-speed line or series of connections that forms a major pathway inside a network. At the local level, a backbone is a line or set of lines that local area networks connect to for a wide area network connection or within a local area network to span distances efficiently (for example, between buildings). On the Internet or other wide area network, a backbone is a set of paths that local or regional networks connect to for long-distance interconnection. The connection points are known as network nodes or telecommunication data switching exchanges (DSEs)

Bandwidth
Bandwidth is used as a synonym for data transfer rate, the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second). Network bandwidth is usually expressed in bits per second (bps); modern networks typically have speeds measured in the millions of bits per second (megabits per second, or Mbps) or billions of bits per second (gigabits per second, or Gbps).

Benchmark
Benchmark is the act of running a computer program, a set of programs, or other operations, in order to assess the relative performance of an object, normally by running a number of standard tests and trials against it.

Broadband
Broadband is a wide bandwidth data transmission with an ability to simultaneously transport multiple signals and traffic types. The medium can be coaxial cable, optical fiber, twisted pair, as well as wireless broadband (wireless broadband includes Mobile broadband). In contrast, baseband describes a communication system in which information is transported across a single channel.

C

Cloud Server
A cloud server is a logical server that is built, hosted and delivered through a cloud computing platform over the Internet. Cloud servers possess and exhibit similar capabilities and functionality to a typical server but are accessed remotely from a cloud service provider. A cloud server may also be called a virtual server or virtual private server.

CVP (CYA Value Points)

CYA Specific
All the services with CYA is tagged with Value points which relates to an equivalent money. Customer can consume any service only if there is sufficient balance value points (pertaining to the service incurred) in the account. Customer can pay and add value points to their account. This system can greatly help our global customers to surpass currency exchange confusions. CYA adjusts the Value points and currency equivalent almost on a daily basis (based on reputed exchange rate feeds). Please refer the Value points vs Currency chart for more details - click here

CYA Connector

CYA Specific
CYA Connector is a small hardware device that’s connected to your LAN which aggregates your link for higher throughput, automatically eliminates failed links to minimize interruptions.

D

Data Center
A data center is a facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. It generally includes redundant or backup power supplies, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire suppression) and various security devices.

Data transfer
Data transfer is the amount of data transferred from a hosting server when a site viewer visits a page on a website. Sites with audio, video, and images can generate a large amount of traffic. Owners of those websites should select a hosting plan and provider with a high range of data transfer.

Dedicated IP
A dedicated IP (Internet Protocol) is a unique Internet address dedicated exclusively to a single hosting account. Normally, several hosting accounts reside on a single server and share that server's IP address.

H

HTTPS
HTTPS (also called HTTP over TLS, HTTP over SSL, and HTTP Secure) is a protocol for secure communication over a computer network which is widely used on the Internet. HTTPS consists of communication over Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) within a connection encrypted by Transport Layer Security or its predecessor, Secure Sockets Layer. The main motivation for HTTPS is authentication of the visited website and to protect the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data.

I

Intranet
An intranet is a private network, accessible only to an organization's staff. Generally a wide range of information and services from the organization's internal IT systems are available that would not be available to the public from the Internet.

K

KVM
KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is the leading open source complete virtualization solution on x86 hardware and it supports all major operating systems including Linux and Windows. KVM enables organizations to be agile by providing robust flexibility and scalability that fit their specific business demands.

L

Leased Line
A permanent telephone connection between two points set up by a telecommunications common carrier. Typically, leased lines are used by businesses to connect geographically distant offices. Unlike normal dial-up connections, a leased line is always active. The fee for the connection is a fixed monthly rate. The primary factors affecting the monthly fee are distance between end points and the speed of the circuit. Because the connection doesn't carry anybody else's communications, the carrier can assure a given level of quality.

Load balancing
Load balancing is a core networking solution responsible for distributing incoming traffic among servers hosting the same application content. By balancing application requests across multiple servers, a load balancer prevents any application server from becoming a single point of failure, thus improving overall application availability and responsiveness. For example, when one application server becomes unavailable, the load balancer simply directs all new application requests to other available servers in the pool.

N

NAT
Network address translation (NAT) is a methodology of remapping one IP address space into another by modifying network address information in Internet Protocol (IP) datagram packet headers while they are in transit across a traffic routing device.

O

Online snapshot
Virtual machine snapshots are file-based snapshots of the state, disk data, and configuration of a virtual machine at a specific point in time. You can take multiple snapshots of a virtual machine, even while it is running. You can then revert the virtual machine to any of the previous states by applying a snapshot to the virtual machine.

P

Private Cloud Server
A private cloud is a particular model of cloud computing that involves a distinct and secure cloud based environment in which only the specified client can operate. As with other cloud models, private clouds will provide computing power as a service within a virtualised environment using an underlying pool of physical computing resource. However, under the private cloud model, the cloud (the pool of resource) is only accessible by a single organisation providing that organisation with greater control and privacy.

R

Recovery
Data recovery is a process of recovering inaccessible data from corrupted or damaged media, drives, files as well as secondary storage media when it cannot be accessed normally. Often the data are being salvaged from storage media. Recovery may be required due to physical damage to the storage device or logical damage to the file system that prevents it from being mounted by the host operating system (OS).

S

SAS Storage
Serial Attached SCSI, an evolution of parallel SCSI into a point-to-point serial peripheral interface in which controllers are linked directly to disk drives. SAS is a performance improvement over traditional SCSI because SAS enables multiple devices (up to 128) of different sizes and types to be connected simultaneously with thinner and longer cables; its full-duplex signal transmission supports 3.0Gb/s. In addition, SAS drives can be hot-plugged.

SATA Storage
Serial ATA (SATA, abbreviated from Serial AT Attachment) is a computer bus interface that connects host bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disk drives and optical drives.

Scalability
It is the ability of a computer application or product (hardware or software) to continue to function well when it (or its context) is changed in size or volume in order to meet a user need. Typically, the rescaling is to a larger size or volume. The rescaling can be of the product itself (for example, a line of computer systems of different sizes in terms of storage, RAM, and so forth) or in the scalable object's movement to a new context (for example, a new operating system).

SSD Storage
A solid-state drive (SSD) is a storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently. SSD technology primarily uses electronic interfaces compatible with traditional block input/output (I/O) hard disk drives, which permit simple replacements in common applications. Additionally, new I/O interfaces, like SATA Express, have been designed to address specific requirements of the SSD technology.

SSL
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client—typically a web server (website) and a browser; or a mail server and a mail client. The SSL protocol determines variables of the encryption for both the link and the data being transmitted.

V

Virtual Firewall Server

CYA Specific
Virtual Firewall Server (VFS) is a managed Cloud server instance specially designed by CYA to serve as firewall for privately hosted Cloud Servers. it's best to host the app servers behind VFS to ensure utmost security for the app servers.

Virtual server
A virtual server is a server that shares hardware and software resources with other operating systems (OS), versus dedicated servers. Because they are cost-effective and provide faster resource control, virtual servers are popular in Web hosting environments.

Virtual VPN Server

CYA Specific
Virtual Firewall Server (VFS) is a managed Cloud server instance specially designed by CYA to serve as VPN framework for privately hosted Cloud Servers. it's best to host the app servers behind VFS to ensure utmost security for the app server and then enable the VPN framework to access your app servers in the most secured way.

Virtualization
In computing, virtualization means to create a virtual version of a device or resource, such as a server, storage device, network or even an operating system where the framework divides the resource into one or more execution environments.

VPN
A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network, such as the Internet. It enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network, and thus are benefiting from the functionality, security and management policies of the private network. A VPN is created by establishing a virtual point-to-point connection through the use of dedicated connections, virtual tunneling protocols, or traffic encryption.

VPS (Virtual Private Server)
A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting service. A VPS runs it's own copy of an operating system, and customers have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.
